Visiting today I have an old acquaintance – an invader, he is an invader, he is also an insider – the essence of this does not change. It was interesting to feel it, because this device can be called if not cult, then certainly popular at the time.

My old friend from our last meeting has changed dramatically – now it is completely plastic. Most of you, I’m sure, have just begun to spit – they passed the metal “canister”, as it was affectionately called. So thought and I have not yet picked it up. Yes, now this is not such a brutal instance, but some traces of this “mood” still remain. Sharp sawn corners, “cuts” in the panels, a minimum of elements and of course, brick favorite by fans. In general, I was satisfied – in the photo he does not look particularly attractive, which can not be said about a real acquaintance.

Plastic frankly pleased me, it is not a soft-touch, but pleasantly rough, moreover matte. The best part is that it is almost non-marking. Naturally, now the mod weighs just nothing. It is quite compact for its form factor, but decent ergonomics still interfere with the insular edges of the back of the device.

The landing pad is made of steel, it rises above the body just a little – what is needed for a safe landing of atoms. Maximum aesthetic fit is provided for atoms 25mm in diameter. By the way, with the “work in tandem” with the atoms, it seems to me that our hero is all right – most of them sit decently.

The control panel, in my opinion, was very successful. In general, I prefer minimalism – and here it is just there. I’ll start with the fire button – perfectly tailored in size, located easily, protrudes from the case just a little. The move is small, the click is very pleasant, the click is clear and quiet – five points, definitely. The potentiometer is also plastic, now the key on it is quite convenient – no need to turn it with any sharp object. He seems to be reliable – the move is smooth, almost no backlash. Naturally, I know that this is a sore spot for any varivolt, but I repeat – this instance inspires confidence, but time will tell how long it will live. Led indicator settled at the very base – the light is pleasantly soft, but not dim – it is most visible even on the street.

Perhaps the most surprising moment was the availability of a charging connector. By the way, this option appeared on the previous instance of the series. A nice addition for fans of charging batteries directly in fashion, you can not say anything.

Access to the battery compartment through a removable panel with magnets. She sits perfectly, a strap for easy removal is available. A slight backlash is present, however, the fact that all materials are plastic, this moment completely levels out. Therefore, no creak, no noise – in a word, this circumstance does not bode well. The contacts are gold-plated, spring-loaded enough, and also they are not sharp – they carefully handle the braid of the batteries. Plus, a ribbon is provided for the convenience of removing the latter.

Well, let’s go over the operation of the control chipset. Most of all I was worried about the plastic case – due to the rapid heating, such instances, as a rule, quickly go into defense due to overheating. However, not in our case. I specifically conducted tests – I warmed a double-spiral drip with a resistance of 0.1 on a fashion until it was simply impossible to touch it. And you know, everything is OK – the mod fried and would have fried if I had not stopped. By the way, the drip cooled after 10 minutes – I’m not joking – it was impossible to take it with my bare hands. The mod warmed up medium, but the gasket between the drip and the connector, which I usually put in order not to scratch the landing pad before the “photo shoot”, was melted (So this comrade is set to work as it should.
